Yarn Bowl Challenge

It's time for the Third Annual Serendipity Needleworks Yarn Bowl Challenge, and this year's opponent is none other than the Tennessee Volunteers. The Yarn Haven in Knoxville has graciously accepted our Challenge and they're already cranking out caps faster than you can sing "On top of Old Smoky"!

The Challenge, in case you're not familiar with it, is a competition between two SEC rival football fan groups to see which team's supporters can produce the largest number of hand knitted and crocheted caps for premature and high-risk infants. Caps will be presented to hospitals with neonatal intensive care units across the state of Alabama, as well as to East Tennessee Children's Hospital in Knoxille for distribution to babies in need. The competition will culminate on Thursday, October 22 with the official announcement of the winner at the Yarn Bowl Challenge Ultimate Pre-Game Tailgate Party. A surprise celebrity will be on hand to announce the Challenge Champion and prize winners.

The 2007 and 2008 Yarn Bowls (against LSU and Auburn University respectively) resulted in 5,271 handmade hugs for premature and high-risk infants in Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, New Orleans, and Auburn/Opelika. Bama knitters and crocheters are, thus far, undefeated but those Volunteers are hot on our trail, so
